About

This blog was started to document my trials and errors as I navigate my digestive challenges. I am attempting to heal my gut and nourish the rest of my life. Hopefully, it will provide resources to assist someone else having similar issues (see also: IBS, celiac, IBD, etc.).

Over the past few years, I have been to countless doctors seeking answers. What I got were prescriptions for more medications that, honestly, didn’t do much good. My husband and I finally reached the end of our ropes and decided to try alternative medicine. My mom has had success improving the health and functioning of her thyroid with vitamins and supplements. She encouraged me to speak with Renee Detky. Renee is a Doctor of Natural Health and uses blood chemistry to assess different issues (she is often affectionately referred to as our “voo-doo doctor”). She directed me to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet in August. It is a major life overhaul, but I’ve been approaching this diet with a hopeful attitude and an open mind for new recipes and foods.

My name is Kelly. I work as an Occupational Therapist, Certified Orthotist and Prosthetic Resident. I am a researcher through and through. At any one time, there are a minimum of 10tabs open in Mozilla. When I find something interesting, I want to know everything I can. I like real paper books and a good used book store. My time is spent on the East Coast in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. My life revolves around my husband, Jack – our Great Dane, family and work. We escape to the mountains any chance we get. If we ever get another vacation, you may see some pictures of our adventures outside the kitchen! Hopefully, one day, I will be able to call myself a gardener…

Please send me a note if you have any questions and I’ll try to direct you to the right resources.
